Daily Programs

Transportation

The Senior Adult Department in-house transportation system covers a vast area of Union County. Members are transported in our own van, with our own drivers, who will assist members on and off the van. Daily local transportation to and from the Y is available at a nominal fee.

Lunch 11:30 Daily

A delicious Glatt Kosher lunch is offered Monday through Friday. All meals are prepared on site under strict supervision of our Mashgiach. Everyone welcomed over age 60.
Suggested donation: $1.75.

Descriptions:

Art Workshop

Instructor Ruth Rosenzweig, accomplished Artist. This class will be held on Wednesdays at noon. The “medium” emphasized in this class will be pastels. You are still welcomed to bring in other  mediums, as this is an instructional course. (Please note that some Pastel materials are provided).

“Biology for Seniors”

Instructor Dr. Ken Melman of Union County College. Learn how biology and science impact our daily lives, with emphasis on maintaining wellbeing through nutrition.

Current Events

Weekly current event slide program with lively discussions will keep everyone involved in current issues.

Drawing & Watercolor

Fundamental and intermediate drawing skills as well as watercolor techniques are learned or reviewed. The class is opened to students at all levels. This is an 8 week session and is taught by Barbara Morano. Call Susan for registration and materials you need to bring to class.

European Jewish Culture

Instructor Salo Enis. Discover Jewish writers throughout the centuries. Explore culture, art, philosophy, and religious heritage. Funded by Temple Beth El of Elizabeth Memorial Fund.

Exercise & One to One

Betty Rosman, RN. A class geared to gentle exercise which stimulates the heart and tones the muscles, followed by blood pressure monitoring and medical counseling.

Exercise with Sue

Start your week with a half hour of sit down exercise with our Senior Director. Light weights will be used to increase muscle strength and increase bone mass.

Games, Games, Games!

Mah Jongg, Shuffle Board, Ping Pong & Pool are enjoyed daily in our New Senior Lounge.

Oneg Shabbat

Prayers, candle lighting, Kiddish, Hamotzi and traditional songs before lunch welcome the Sabbath with grace, warmth and friendship.

Survey of Jewish Literature

Union County Life Long Learning with Eileen Toplansky. Explore the world of Jewish writers past and present. Discussions are varied, thought provoking and intriguing.

Tai Chi

Instructor Earl Baxter. Tai Chi helps to improve flexibility, balance, relaxation, coordination.

Yiddish Vinkl

With Jeanne Major. Members will bring in Yiddish books, articles and stories and we will discuss them in Yiddish. Recall long lost skills in Yiddish and enjoy wonderful old tales.

Mature Driving

Mature Driving education given by AARP. This refresher course is designed to help older drivers improve their skills.  Discount on insurance renewal after completion.
